First baseman Prince Fielder has shocked the baseball world by signing the fourth largest contract in Major League Baseball history, a nine-year $214m (£137m) contract with the Detroit Tigers.
The 27-year-old, 19 stone slugger spent his first seven seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, hitting 230 home runs. Last season he hit 38 home runs, placing him second in the National League. In 2007, he was the youngest baseball player to hit 50 home runs at the age of 23 and in 2008 he won the National League MVP award. He was also the most valuable player in the 2011 All-Star Game.
Fielder will be joining the same team that his father, Cecil Fielder, starred for in his Major League career. In seven years with the Tigers, Cecil hit 245 home runs. His son will now follow in his footsteps as the "Prince of Detroit".
