Lance Armstrong lost almost all chance of overall victory in the Giro d'Italia yesterday when he was dropped by the main favourites six kilometres from the finish of the Alpe di Siusi.

After struggling slightly on Tuesday, Armstrong said he would lose around two minutes. He finished three minutes behind stage winner Denis Menchov, sliding from sixth to 22nd place overall, 3min 34sec down on new race leader Danilo di Luca.
