Spain's Jon Izaguirre took a solo victory in Stage 16 of the Giro d'Italia yesterday. Another Spaniard, Joaquim Rodriguez, retained the overall lead.
Izaguirre attacked from a day-long break of 10 riders on a steep climb near the finish, to take the win on a 173km (108 mile) stage from Limone sul Garda to Falzes. Italy's Alessandro De Marchi was second and the Dutchman Stef Clement took third.
