Lizzie Armitstead has been ruled out of next week's Track Cycling World Championships due to a side strain.

The 22-year-old from Otley, who was in hospital earlier this year with a gall-bladder infection, was due to ride the six-event omnium in the Netherlands.

A British Cycling statement read: "The team doctor has confirmed she is responding well to treatment and a full recovery is expected but not in time for the World Championships."

Armitstead's place has gone to Laura Trott.
