Cycling: Wiggins remains in touch in Dauphiné

Britain's Bradley Wiggins lies third in the Dauphiné Libéré after the second stage of the Tour de France warm-up. The Sky Procycling rider is 11 seconds behind Kazakh Alexandre Vinokourov of the Astana team, who retained the overall leader's yellow jersey yesterday. Vinokourov leads Jurgen van den Broeck of Belgium by 11 seconds.

Wiggins, on the same overall time as the Belgian, leapfrogged Cadel Evans of Australia into third after finishing in the main pack in Lyons. Germany's John Degenkolb won the sprint finish to take the stage victory ahead of France's Samuel Dumoulin and another German, Paul Maertens. The HTC-Highroad rider went ahead with less than 200 metres of the uphill finish remaining to take the 179km stage that began in Voiron.

Degenkolb said he was happy to put German cycling in the spotlight for good reasons after years of doping affairs involving former Tour de France champion Jan Ullrich, and also Patrik Sinkewitz and Matthias Kessler. "The most important thing is to note that there are clean riders in Germany," Degenkolb said.
