Prosecutors have demanded a two-year prison sentence for a man charged with attempting to blackmail Raymond van Barneveld by claiming he had a sex tape of the former darts world champion and a mistress.

Prosecutors say the suspect, identified only as a 26-year-old from Rotterdam, demanded ¤10,000 (£8,700) from the married Van Barneveld, threatening to put the tape online if he did not pay up.

Van Barneveld was not in court for yesterday's brief hearing. Judges at The Hague District Court said they would deliver their verdict in two weeks' time.
