Tina Stiller's hopes of qualifying for the Beijing Olympics in the single sculls were dashed yesterday by Ulla Hvid of Denmark who edged out the 20-year-old Nottingham student in the qualifying regatta in Poznan. Six hundredths of a second separated them after a charge for the finishing line behind Nuria Dominguez Asensio, of Spain.

The men's quadruple scullers have a chance of going to Beijing after finishing second in their repêchage, while Olivia Whitlam and Louisa Reeve have an evenly matched four-boat final today for one of two Olympic places. In a race for lanes on Monday they finished second.
