The Good, The Bad and The Odd

The Good: Sir Chris Hoy

The old sporting cliché that form is temporary but class permanent proved true for four-time Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy yesterday, when he secured gold in the keirin at the World Track Championships.

Hoy had finished second to British team-mate Jason Kenny in the sprint semi-final the previous day, but raised his performance to win the keirin. "It's the last meaningful race I'll have before the Olympics," said the gleeful 36-year-old, "so it's great to have that confidence boost." Must be all those Bran Flakes...

The Bad: Tottenham's away days

Spurs just can't buy an away win at the moment, and with their stalemate at Sunderland they have now gone six games in all competitions without an away victory, including the FA Cup goalless draw at League One Stevenage in February. They and Queen's Park Rangers are the only two teams yet to win a Premier League match on the road in 2012. History doesn't favour Harry Redknapp's side either – they haven't won an away league match in April for five years.

The Odd: Twitter shirts in the WSL

Twitter names on boots have become normal in the Premier League, but some players in the FA Women's Super League, including Arsenal's Stephanie Houghton (@stephhoughton2) and Chelsea's Claire Rafferty (@clrafferty1) took it a step further yesterday as the league's "digital ambassadors", sporting their social networking handle on their sleeves. Maybe their bookings could be recorded by tweet instead of in the referee's pad.
