Joanne Jackson, an Olympic bronze medallist and former 400 metres freestyle world record holder, has retired from competitive swimming.
The 26-year-old, who won bronze for Britain in the 400m freestyle in the 2008 Olympics and broke the world record when qualifying for the 2009 World Championships, where she won silver, said: "I feel so lucky to have been able to compete to an international level for so many years and to have been to three Olympic Games. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me. I'm now looking at new opportunities to start a Swim Academy and begin a brand new career in events."
