Swimming: Thorpedo fails to launch again

Ian Thorpe suffered another disappointment on his comeback by failing to qualify for the 100m freestyle final in Beijing yesterday.

The Australian finished sixth in his heat and 15th overall at the World Cup meeting with a time of 50.21 seconds in his first freestyle race since 2004. He also took part in the 100m individual medley heats but finished ninth overall with a time of 56.70. The 29-year-old made an unsuccessful return to competition in Singapore last week.
