High numbers held a huge advantage on the straight course at Ayr yesterday on the first day of the Ayr Gold Cup meeting. Ten Shun won the five-furlong sprint from stall 25 - with the frame being filled by fellow high-drawn horses.

The runners split into two groups as the race got under way, but it soon became apparent that the 14 racing on the stands side had the advantage with Our Little Secret setting a good pace. Alan Berry's filly looked like holding on until Ten Shun (7-1) burst through to nail her close home for a three-quarter-length call.

Hypnosis was a head back in third with Dorn Dancer, the 5-1 favourite, a slightly unlucky fourth to complete a clean sweep for the stands-side runners. Seven runners who stayed on the far side of the track appeared to have no chance.

On a good day for the bookies, Osteopathic Remedy shocked punters with his 40-1 victory in the first race.
