Racing: Club warn off tailor
Chris Coleman, a London tailor, was yesterday warned off for two years as the Jockey Club finalised the disciplinary proceedings arising from evidence given in the drugs trial of the former jockey Barrie Wright.
Coleman was the last of eight people called to Portman Square since the end of Wright's trial at Southampton Crown Court last year.
During the course of the trial, Coleman described himself as a semi-professional gambler and admitted betting on horses tipped to him by jockeys including Wright. Yesterday Coleman – who did not attend – was excluded from race tracks and other licensed premises until at least January 2005.
A Club statement said Coleman had solicited and received up to 1998 "quite a lot" of information and tips from Wright; had on frequent occasions passed on part of his winnings to Wright "in cash or in kind" and had rewarded "other unidentified jockeys for information by benefits in kind".
