Eight winners shared the Tote Jackpot yesterday when more than £290,000 was added to the £220,054 carried forward to Wolverhampton, making a total pool of £510,976.

With £169.50 worth of stakes still going heading into the last leg, the winner, Queen's Rhapsody, was carrying just £6 worth of tickets. The final dividend was £60,465.40 to a £1 stake.

The big pool was a relief for the Tote, who were criticised four weeks ago when increasing the off-course minimum unit stake to 50p.

"We are also pleased that a number of smaller-staking customers have collected huge amounts for relatively modest stakes," Andy Clifton, a Tote spokesman, said.

There were eight individual winners, with only one large-staking syndicate successful.

Punters can turn their attention today to races at Sandown and Wetherby which make up the Tote's Scoop6 pool bet. If racing is called off at those meetings, the Scoop6 legs would this morning be switched elsewhere.
