After a blank day for racing on turf yesterday, with the meetings at Hereford and Kelso called off because of heavy rain and storm-force winds, the clerks of the courses at today's meetings are keeping a watchful eye on conditions. Today's televised cards over jumps are at Sandown, Uttoxeter and Wetherby, but only the last-named, plus the card at Punchestown, face inspections. Threatening forecasts could force a change in plans, though, and in the event of an abandonment at Wetherby Channel 4 will show four races from Lingfield, commencing with the 1.00.

In warmer climes, Frankie Dettori, out of luck with two seconds at Nad Al Sheba on Thursday, again filled the runner-up's slot on his only ride at the Dubai track yesterday.
