L'Ami is likely to use the Racing Post Chase at Sandown on 25 February as a stepping stone to the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The François Doumen-trained seven-year-old is a 25-1 chance for the blue riband after finishing second in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup and fourth behind Kicking King in the King George VI Chase.

"He is sparkling in his work and I would like to run him in the Racing Post if the handicapper will allow me," Doumen said.

"I just think he was caught a bit by surprise when they accelerated coming into the straight in the King George."
