"I've looked at the tape and it bounced three foot inside the field," he said yesterday after bringing the matter to the attention of the Rugby League's match officials director, Stuart Cummings. "He will admit that it was a wrong decision but won't say that it cost us the game. They're not going to play the game again or give us the points."

Despite being deprived of a victory that would have lifted them off the foot of the table, Abram described Leigh's performance as "very encouraging - especially with the team we had out." He has asked his board for permission to bring in two Super League forwards on loan and expects his signing from St Helens, Dom Feaunati, to make his debut against Wakefield a week on Saturday.

The Great Britain forward, Adrian Morley, will not have to serve a suspension, despite being sent off playing for his Australian club, the Sydney Roosters, at the weekend. Morley has been told that he has no case to answer over the alleged high tackle for which he was dismissed against Canterbury.

Morley's latest disciplinary problem had heightened speculation in Australia that the Roosters could be ready to release him at the end of the season - something that would cause intense interest at Wigan and at his previous club, Leeds.

The former Leeds stand-off, Ben Walker, has signed for South Sydney for the rest of the season.
