Anderson critical of Halifax's attitude

The Halifax coach, Tony Anderson, again hit out at his players after another humiliating Super League defeat yesterday.

The end of the season cannot come quickly enough for Anderson's relegated side, who are now 15 points adrift at the foot of the table after a 68-6 thrashing by 11th-placed Wakefield at Belle Vue.

Halifax have now lost their last 26 games and Anderson suggested his players have lost interest in the cause. He said: "The players keep telling me that they're worried about contracts but there weren't many out there who looked as though they wanted a contract, unless they've already signed for somebody else.

"It disappoints me. Pride tells me you go out and do your best no matter what the situation is whether you have a contract or you don't or you've signed for somebody else. You go and do the best you can every week and I certainly hadn't the blokes there who did that.

"The guys can't look any of the staff in the eye. They're too worried about what they're going to do tonight rather than getting over bumps and bruises and getting ready for next week."

Wakefield have also had a miserable season, but were still far too strong for Halifax, with Jamie Rooney claiming a hat-trick in a 13-try win.

Their veteran scrum-half, Brad Davis, received a standing ovation in his final home match before joining French side Villeneuve as player-coach next season.

The Wildcats coach, Shane McNally, said: "We saw some great tries from close in and from long range, especially Steve Snitch's 98-metre try or whatever it was.

"The guys just played with heaps of confidence and that's really good for us to take into next season."

McNally also had a degree of sympathy for his opposite number, Anderson: "I feel for Tony, but Halifax have done the right thing. They are sticking with him and he will get them back in Super League very quickly."
