Anderson fights to be fit for Test

Paul Anderson, the Bradford prop, faces a race to be fit in time for Great Britain's Test in Australia in July. Anderson played in all three Ashes Tests last autumn, but broke his arm in the match at Halifax on Saturday.

"It's a big blow to both Paul and ourselves," said the Bulls coach, Brian Noble. "He has been in tremendous form this season, but the good news is that the bone is not displaced and he could be back in four or five weeks."

That means that Anderson will miss several Super League games, starting with Friday's against Wigan, as well as Yorkshire's Origin Game against Lancashire next month.

If he is back in action after five weeks, he will have just one match to prove his fitness before the Great Britain coach, David Waite, names his squad on 24 June.

The injury increases the likelihood of Waite using the former Leeds second-rower, Adrian Morley, at prop – the position he now fills for the Sydney Roosters. He is already without his first-choice scrum-half, Sean Long, who will be out of action for two months after surgery on a broken hand.

Warrington's captain and scrum-half, Brett Rodwell, is expected to be out of action for eight weeks after surgery on a groin injury this week. Rodwell has struggled with the injury since arriving at the Wolves and has been the object of criticism from some of the club's fans. He missed his first game of the season at Castleford on Sunday and has now admitted that he cannot carry on without an operation.

Halifax say that the future of the club could be decided by a meeting of the Thrum Hall trustees today. The Blue Sox want to use the proceeds of the sale of their old ground to pay off debts, including one to the Inland Revenue, rather than on completing rebuilding work at The Shay, which they share with Halifax Town.

If the trustees turn them down, Halifax fear that they could face a winding up order, with their players sold to pay their creditors.

Leigh have offered their coach, Paul Terzis, a new contract, but only if he steers them into Super League at the end of this season.
