Carroll lifts Leeds

Leeds expect to have their New Zealand Test centre Tonie Carroll back in a potentially devastating partnership with Keith Senior for their biggest game of the season on Friday night.

Carroll has been out for six weeks after tearing his medial ligament, but is back in training in time for the sudden-death play-off at Wigan. Carroll is rejoining the Brisbane Broncos at the end of this season and wants to go out as a winner. "There's three games to go and all it takes is three wins and I'm going home with a Super League ring,'' he said.

The Wigan coach, Stuart Raper, admitted that the combination of Carroll and the in-form Senior would be a formidable proposition. "They're a very strong pair of international centres and Leeds will play their power game through them,'' he said.

Raper hopes to have two key forwards, Terry O'Connor and Mick Cassidy, back and his captain, Andy Farrell, has recovered from flu. But Brian Carney is some way from fitness, leaving an inexperienced back line to counter the threat of Carroll and Senior. Karl Pratt could return for Leeds after a four-week lay-off with an ankle injury.

Hull have confirmed the signing of the former Bradford and Wakefield forward, Warren Jowitt, from relegated Salford on a two-year deal.
