Jason Demetriou is to continue his long English career as the new player-coach of Keighley. The 34-year-old Australian has agreed a one-year contract, turning his back on a deal he had agreed as a player with York.
The former Wakefield captain was released by the Wildcats at the end of last season. He was sought after by several Super League clubs, before opting to join York, whom he leaves without playing a single match. He replaces Barry Eaton, who has left Keighley to taken up the post of assistant coach to Iestyn Harris at Crusaders.
The Wrexham-based club are facing a struggle to keep half-back, Jarrod Sammut – a potential target for Hull.
