Orr's last chance to book Australia trip

Castleford's Danny Orr has a last chance to impress before Great Britain's squad for Australia is named after tonight's match at St Helens.

Orr was instrumental in turning around Yorkshire's effort in the second half of the Origin game against Lancashire on Tuesday and his name is bound to come into the conversation when the party is picked on Sunday night.

His club coach, Graham Steadman, will be involved in those deliberations and he says that his captain and stand-off has gained a major boost from his performance at Headingley.

"He's much happier with himself. He's really buzzing after that," he said. "You can't judge a player on 40 minutes, but he's put himself in the shop window and he gets another chance in this game."

Steadman hopes to have a full-strength side available on a ground where Castleford have not won since 1990, when Steadman himself scored 23 of their 29 points.

Steadman added: "We will have to be on top of our game. Saints are in superb form but we have been working very hard and are confident of getting a result there for the first time in 12 years.

"We got off to a very bad start against them last time, going 18 points in arrears, but then we put our wrongs right with an outstanding performance. It is very frustrating that we cannot seem to produce that more. We have played well since but we have made poor decisions and not taken advantage of opportunities. We have not had the luck and we need to turn fortune in our favour."

St Helens, with Paul Sculthorpe added to an injury list that already includes their first-choice half-backs, Tommy Martyn and Sean Long, have taken the teenaged scrum-half, Lee Sanderson, on a month's loan from Leigh.

Sanderson played a handful of first-team matches last season and looked impressive, but has been confined to playing Academy rugby this year after breaking his jaw.

"He's a great prospect and this is a wonderful opportunity for him," said Leigh's chief executive, Tommy Cunningham, who has failed to persuade Doncaster to part with the former Huddersfield and Warrington centre, Dale Cardoza.

Another player Leigh have allowed to go out on loan, the Welsh international forward Gareth Price, is in line to make his debut for the London Broncos in their match against Warrington in Carcassonne tomorrow.

The Broncos have promoted their Frenchman, Sylvain Houles, to the starting line-up in a town where he spent three years at college, with Paul Sykes, on loan from Bradford, dropping to the bench.

Saints' Ian Millward and the Great Britain coach, David Waite, are two of the names likely to be mentioned at the Australian club, Wests Tigers, who have told their coach, Terry Lamb, that he is not being retained next season.

The Tigers have slipped since their good start to the season and Waite's previous record with St George-Illawarra and Millward's achievements at St Helens could make both of them candidates.
