The England second-row forward, Jon Wilkin, is likely to miss this autumn's Four Nations tournament after being told that he needs knee surgery.

Wilkin would have been one of Tony Smith's likely selections for the competition, which involves Australia, Papua New Guinea and France.

His coach at St Helens, Mick Potter, said the operation is being put off until the end of the season, but that Wilkin is a doubt for tomorrow's game at Leeds.
