Widnes have taken their new signings for their return to Super League next season into double figures with the recruitment of the Warrington hooker, Jon Clarke. The 32-year-old former Wigan player, who won two Great Britain caps in 2007, has agreed a two-year contract. That makes him the tenth newcomer at a club which has already told 13 current players that they are not wanted in the elite competition next year.

Clarke has played 260 times for the Wolves and hopes to bow out at the end of this, his testimonial year, with a Grand Final appearance. "I've had ten fantastic years at Warrington, but the time has come for the next chapter," he said.

Widnes have failed, however, in their inquiry for Castleford's Greg Eden, who is joining Huddersfield on a three-year deal.

Craig Fitzgibbon looks to have played his last game for Hull, after suffering a broken ankle. The 34-year-old Kangaroo forward is out of contract at the end of this season.
