Widnes wait on Cassidy's fitness but Hull KR lose Steel

The former Wigan and Great Britain second row Mick Cassidy is Widnes' only doubt for tomorrow's LHF National League One Grand Final againstHull Kingston Rovers as both sides seek to secure a Super League placenext season.

The veteran forward suffered a calf injury in last Sunday's 24-20 win over Whitehaven and will be given a fitness test today before the Widnes coach, Steve McCormack, finalises his line-up. The second row Oliver Wilkes (shoulder) and goal-kicking centre Mick Nanyn (calf), who both missed the final eliminator against Whitehaven, have been passed fit. "He [Cassidy] should be OK so we will be able to pick from strength," McCormack said.

Rovers will be without the Scotland winger Jon Steel, who has a hamstring injury and is replaced by Leroy Rivett, the man who famously scored four tries for Leeds in the 1999 Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

The loose forward Tommy Gallagher has passed a fitness test, so Hull KR's only other absentee is the prop Francis Stephenson, whose season ended with surgery on an Achilles injury last month. "We've got Leroy Rivett sitting in the wings waiting to take his spot and he's a fairly capable replacement," said the Rovers coach, Justin Morgan.
