Warrington have confirmed that they have signed Huddersfield's full-back Brett Hodgson from the end of the season. The Wolves have agreed a two-year contract with the 32-year-old Australian full-back, who is the reigning Man of Steel.

Hodgson unexpectedly became available when the Giants only offered him a one-season extension. "I'm excited about the signing and surprised to get the chance to sign someone of his calibre," said the Warrington coach Tony Smith, who coached a young Hodgson in the lower grades at Parramatta a decade and a half ago.

His impending arrival at the Halliwell Jones Stadium has stirred speculation over the future of the Wolves' current full-back, Richie Mathers. Huddersfield have played down rumours that they might sign him as a replacement for Hodgson.
