Team New Zealand, beaten 5-0 by Switzerland's Alinghi in the America's Cup earlier this year, have turned to round-the-world skipper Grant Dalton to oversee their efforts to win the Cup back in 2007.

New Zealand's government has given the team £2m as Dalton takes up the new post of managing director, with everyone reporting to him.

Dalton announced that he had been able to make two key appointments with the retention of Dean Barker as skipper and Tom Schnackenberg, who will now concentrate exclusively on design and development.
