Five times world champion Ian Williams and his team GAC Pindar top the table after the first two days of the Stena Cup with an unbeaten run of seven wins on one of his favourite World Match Racing Tour courses, Marstrand in Sweden.

Swedish rival Johnie Berntsson also has seven wins in second place, but he also has four losses while Keith Swinton of Australia lies third with seven wins but one less loss.

The new chief executive of sailing’s world governing body, the International Sailing Federation, is Briton Peter Sowery, a management and sponsorship consultant who has also advised the company which works alongside solo sailor Alex Thomson. He is expected to take up his post immediately and replaces Jerome Pels, Sir Ben Ainslie’s brother-in-law.
