Squash: Jansher set for comeback bid in Karachi

The former world champion Jansher Khan has announced plans for a comeback and is hoping for a return to competition next month.

With Peter Nicol and Jonathon Power dominating the game, Jansher's return will provide extra competition. The Pakistani is hoping to return in time for the CNS International in Karachi on 21 September. But Jansher, one of the most successful players in history, hopes that will be just the first stepping stone on the road back to the top. "This tournament will boost my confidence, a necessary factor to deliver the goods for the country," he said. "I have gained complete fitness and I am feeling an eagerness to again appear on court.

"I have had operations on my knees and I have been playing squash for the last three months without any problem. It has boosted my morale and prompted me to make a comeback."

The 33-year-old's return was welcomed by Gawain Briars, executive director of the Professional Squash Association.

"We would welcome the return of one of the PSA Tour's greatest names, and look forward to processing whatever wildcard applications the promoters submit" said Briars.

The eight-times World Open champion and six-times British Open champion announced his decision to quit last year. Plagued by injury, his last and 99th PSA Tour title came at the Super Series Finals in London in March 1998.
