Teamwork pays off as Millar sprints to victory

David Millar broke away close to the finish to claim his second win in less than a week on the sixth stage of the Tour of Spain yesterday. "I was fed up with being classified as a time-trial specialist," the Scot said.

Quickly joined by the Colombian Santiago Botero from the seven-man break which formed with 20 kilometres to go on the stage to Torrelavega, the 24-year-old Millar then proved the faster in an agonisingly long sprint against the Kelme rider.

Millar thanked his team-mate Inigo Cuesta for his help in the break before he took off alone on the final climb, close to the finish in Torrelavega. He said: "We talked about it in the team meeting and he said he'd help set up a situation in which I could win. I'm just pleased I was able to recompense all his hard work."

Asked if he could win today's time-trial, he said: "I should do. It is the kind of circuit that suits me down to the ground."
