CM Punk should have ended Undertaker's streak, says Paul Heyman, and it might have kept him in the WWE

Not one but two WWE catastrophes could perhaps have been avoided, Paul Heyman believes – The Undertaker's Wrestlemania streak coming to a lacklustre end and CM Punk departing wrestling.

Speaking on Chael Sonnen's You’re Welcome! podcast, Heyman explained how he lobbied hard for Punk to defeat Taker instead of Brock Lesnar, who retired the legend in a match that proved a bit of a down note for fans.

"I actually pitched it for Punk, because i thought it was the only thing that was going to keep Punk from eventually leaving WWE" he said." Even before that match, he was itching to get out.

"I figured if they gave him this victory, he needed to stay a while and capitalize on it. That idea never came to fruition. Then, of course, the stars were just aligned for it to be Brock."

This second claim might be a little optimistic, Punk's problems with the WWE and the lifestyle of wrestling seemed to run much deeper than just being spurned for one match, but it does make you wonder whether his career in wrestling would have taken a different trajectory, or perhaps lasted longer had he been given what was arguably the most prized victory in the industry.

CM Punk took some time out after he quit wrestling last year, and has now joined the MMA world as a UFC fighter.
