Finn Balor believes he has “earnt the opportunity” to face generational WWE talents Roman Reigns and John Cena.

The Irish star should be preparing for one of the biggest matches of his career at SummerSlam against Reigns, the Universal Champion, but a recent swerve from Cena suggests that won’t be happening.

The returning 16-time WWE world champion has replaced Balor in that bout, setting up a monster main event for the biggest pay-per-view event of the summer.

But this is professional wrestling, and plans can always change.

Speaking ahead of SummerSlam, Balor put forward a challenge to Cena and Reigns, demanding they give him the opportunity he deserves.

“I don’t care if it’s a triple threat, Roman vs Finn vs John. I’m cool with it. That title match is rightfully mine.

“We don’t deserve anything in this life. You’ve got to work for it, earn it and fight for it. I do feel that a championship match vs Roman Reigns is something I have earnt.

“I deserve that opportunity to prove to everybody in the ring, without talk, when the bell rings, that we can settle it.”

While Reigns and Cena are undoubtedly the biggest WWE stars of their respective generations, Balor believes his pedigree - both within the company and on the wider independent circuit - puts him in that same conversation.

“I’m on a level to compete with anyone in the world. It doesn’t matter if it’s John Cena or Roman Reigns.

“I’ve proven for 21 years that I belong in this business, I can perform at the top level and knock it out of the park.”
