WWE holds its first pay-per-view event since Wrestlemania on Sunday with Money in the Bank.

One of the most popular and unique events in recent years, Money in the Bank is less about championships and titles and more about opportunities.

In short, both eight men and eight women will compete in Money in the Bank ladder matches – the winner of each being the wrestler who ascends the ladder and unclips the Money in the Bank briefcase.

The case, symbolic as it is, represents the opportunity at a future world championship match at any time of the holder’s choosing.

It has helped propel some of the biggest careers in WWE and provided some of the most memorable highlights in terms of ring action.

This Sunday’s event also features bouts for the Universal and WWE Championships, plus plenty more.

When is Money in the Bank?

Money in the Bank airs in the UK this Sunday night, 19th May, into Monday morning, with the action getting underway with the main portion of the show starting at midnight – though a Kick Off show, featuring some build-up and, at least one ‘preliminary’ match, will air immediately before, starting at 11pm.

Where is Money in the Bank being held?

Money in the Bank 2019 comes from the XL Centre in Hartford, Connecticut. The arena’s sporting capacity is over 15,500 but for WWE events, a turnout of closer to 12,000 is more likely.

The arena is no stranger to WWE – with Wrestlemania (1995) and Survivor Series (1999) among the many events held their previously.

Where and how can I watch Money in the Bank?

There are a variety of ways to catch the event. You can order it on Sky Sports Box Office for the price of £14.95 either live or via repeat in the following days.

WWE are also airing the event via their own in-house streaming subscription service, WWE Network. It’s available for £9.99 per month. You can view WWE Network on most smartphones and devices, including PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 or Xbox One and the vast majority of connected smart televisions.

What’s the main event?

At this stage, it’s difficult to tell! There are plenty of contenders, but a sensible guess would put one of the two Money in the Bank ladder matches in the main event slot.

On the men’s side, Ricochet, Sami Zayn, Drew McIntyre and Baron Corbin from Monday Night Raw will all battle it out, joined by Smackdown’s Finn Balor, Randy Orton, Andrade and Ali.

Smackdown’s female contingent will be Nikki Cross – who replaces Alexa Bliss – Ember Moon, Carmella, and Mandy Rose and Bayley, while Raw’s women are Natalya, Dana Brooke, and Naomi.

What’s wrong with Alexa Bliss?

At the moment, there isn’t a lot know. Bliss has been in-and-out of action for some time now and hasn’t wrestled on a consistent basis for a while. WWE confirmed this week that she – legitimately – was not medically cleared to compete at Sunday’s event and would be replaced by Cross.

Bliss was also written out of wrestling on Raw from London several days prior, so the current issue is clearly ongoing. Nothing as yet is confirmed, but many fans are concerned the issue may be concussion related.

What’s the WWE Championship match?

This match will be Kofi Kingston’s first defence of the WWE Championship he won against defeating Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania.

He puts the gold on the line against Kevin Owens, who returned from injury after ‘Mania’ to – eventually – spring a surprise attack on Kingston, who he had previously befriended.
