NICK FALDO, the world No 1, will return to the Dunhill Cup international at St Andrews this year. Faldo declined to play in the tournament last year but will be the captain of this year's England team, which will be without any of the three players who won the title a year ago.

Faldo's team-mates will be Peter Baker and Mark James, who have both won twice on this year's European Tour.

Last year's victorious squad - Jamie Spence, David Gilford and Steven Richardson - failed to qualify for selection, which is based on rankings and money won on the European Tour.

Scotland, the 1992 runners-up, will again by captained by Colin Montgomerie. He will be supported by Sam Torrance and Gordon Brand Jnr.

Wales, who did not qualify last year, rejoin the field with Ian Woosnam backed by Mark Mouland and Paul Mayo.

Ireland's team will be Ronan Rafferty, David Feherty and the newcomer Paul McGinley.

The tournament, at the Old Course at St Andrews, runs from 14 to 17 October. The other 12 teams will be announced later.
