Britain's Lee Westwood set a course record with an eight-under-par 64 on the opening day of the Malaysian Open yesterday. Westwood had eight birdies and no dropped shots.

David A Russell, hoping his battle against chest cancer has been won, holed in one at the 16th in the opening round of the Moroccan Open in Agadir. It helped him to a three-under-par 69, just two shots off the lead. Russell trails Australian leader Stephen Allan and is just one shot adrift of the American Bob May, South Africa's Clinton Whitelaw and Scot Andrew Coltart.
