Golf: US players out of Open
LANNY WADKINS, the United States Ryder Cup captain, and Rocco Mediate have become the latest Americans to withdraw from next week's Open at Turnberry.
Wadkins has been unwell with an inner ear infection and has been advised not to fly, while Mediate is still troubled by the back injury which forced him to pull out of the US Open after two rounds.
The former US PGA champion, Bob Tway, Gary Hallberg, Donnie Hammond, Billy Andrade and Lincolnshire's Jim Payne have withdrawn from final qualifying, starting tomorrow.
