Dorothy Delasin became the youngest LPGA winner in 25 years when she sank a par-putt on the second play-off hole to defeat Pat Hurst and win the Giant Eagle Classic in Ohio.

Dorothy Delasin became the youngest LPGA winner in 25 years when she sank a par-putt on the second play-off hole to defeat Pat Hurst and win the Giant Eagle Classic in Ohio.

The 19-year-old rookie, who won the US women's amateur title in 1999, had a birdie at the 18th hole to force the play-off, her five-under-par 67 putting her alongside Hurst on an 11-under total of 205. Hurst fired a final round of 70, but that was not enough to bring her secondLPGA success of the year.

After Delasin made her three-foot putt for victory, her father, Arsenio, who was caddying for her, held the flag over his head and danced around in emotional scenes. After hugging Hurst, he embraced his daughter and carried her around the green.

Delasin collected $150,000 (£100,000) for the victory which helped her to leap from 52nd to 22nd on the LPGA money list.
