Thomas Bjorn has reacted angrily after Padraig Harrington questioned plans for a possible tightening up of membership rules on the European Tour.

"I don't believe in protectionism," Harrington was quoted as saying after hearing that players may have to up their commitment to some European events next season.

"I don't know where Padraig is coming from," said Bjorn, chairman of the European Tour players' committee. "He never comes to people on the committee and never will do. He seems to think he is above it."
