Amateur Paul Dunne has been finding himself mistaken for Jordan Spieth this week and to look at the pair it's understandable why.

But the Irishman's performance at The Open has seen him playing like the two-time major winner as well.

The 22-year-old hit an opening round of 69 on Thursday, keeping him in touching distance of the leaders at St Andrews.

With most expecting him to fall away, on Friday he managed another 69 to put him -6 overall - well inside the cut.

During the third-round on Sunday, it just got even better with Dunne hitting one of the rounds of the day and ending it as joint leader of The Open alongside Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Day.

Not much was known about Dunne - before this weekend he didn't even have a Wikipedia page - but that's all changing. Here's how The Open describe him on their website...

Was the only amateur to come through Final Qualifying and did it in style at Woburn, back-to-back rounds of 67 giving him a three-stroke victory over Oliver Fisher. The day was not without drama, though - the young Irishman, studying at the University of Alabama and fresh from a Palmer Cup victory over America with Europe's top college players, arrived on the first tee just a minute before his start time. In 2009 he became the first player to make a successful defence of the Irish boys title and captained Britain and Ireland's boys to victory over Continental Europe.

If Dunne can maintain his form, he could become the first Irish player to win The Silver Medal - best score at The Open by an amateur - since Rory McIlroy in 2007. He could even potentially look more like Spieth - by getting his hands on one of the 2015 majors...
