Brooks Koepka looks to build on a formidable opening round at Bethpage Black after scoring a course record, bogey-free 63 at the PGA Championship.

Playing alongside Tiger Woods, Koepka produced one of golf’s most faultless performances, but the Masters champion struggled to keep pace in his first competitive round since Augusta and lies an almighty nine shots back.

World No 119 Danny Lee is one shot back of Koepka, with Tommy Fleetwood in outright third, already trailing by four shots.

Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth are all well poised, but Rory McIlroy again laboured at a major and sits alongside Woods at +2.
