The third day of the 145th Open Championship promised to be a windy one, with forecasters expecting gusts of up to 30mph at Royal Troon.

It proved no problem for Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson though as the pair set-up a thrilling final pairing for the fourth day that will decide who lifts the Claret Jug on Sunday evening, with the Championship battle almost certain to be a two-horse race.

Stenson holds a one shot lead over American Mickelson, with Bill Haas trailing in third on -6 while England's Andrew Johnston sits fourth on -5 and will head out in the penultimate group on Sunday.

The day proved a frustrating one for Rory Mclroy though, as the former world No 1 smashed his three wood in anger befrore carding a two-over-par 73 to leave him well out of contention.
