Tiger Woods sees 11-year-old hole inaugural tee shot at new course

An 11-year-old boy completely showed up former world No 1 Tiger Woods when he was opening a brand new golf course in Texas after hitting a hole-in-one with the inaugural tee shot.

Woods, who helped design The Playground course near Houston, watched on as Taylor Crozier took to the tee on the 81-yard opening hole.

But as the crowd hushed and Crozier hit his tee shot, nobody was prepared for what was about to unfold. Crozier’s ball pitched to the left of the flag, but spun right quickly and towards the flag, sinking as it found the hole and sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Woods quickly rushed over to embrace the youngster, and it would only get better for him and his playing partner, Ceci Lococo, as they recorded rounds of 32 on the 10-hole course to actually beat Woods, who could only muster a 35.

14-time grand slam winner Woods is currently taking an indefinite break from golf after having surgery on his back, and after speaking bleakly in December last year about his chances of a return, the American was far more upbeat about his chances of appearing in a professional competition again.

“It is a heck of a lot better than it was then,” Woods said. “During December I wasn’t feeling very good and you could see that all over me. I couldn’t play with my kids, I wasn’t able to throw and play catch with my son. What father and son don’t play catch? These were things that I couldn’t do.

“Can I do them now? Yes. I can’t do it all. They are out running and I can’t keep up with them but I am getting there. Part of that is playing golf; I have been chipping and putting with Charlie.”

Woods even teased a possible return at next month’s Masters, although was keen to stress that the sight of him at Augusta National remains a very unlikely prospect.

“I would love to say yes but I don’t know,” he added. “It would be awesome to say I am playing and know when I will be playing but I don’t.

“It is still tough to take, it is frustrating, all these unknowns. What I do know is that I am progressing, I am getting better, I am getting stronger. I take it day by day. Sitting now talking, from where I was in December? Things have changed dramatically. I just need to keep that momentum going.”
