Wie's British Open campaign blown off course at wet and wild Birkdale
The 15-year-old American sensation shot a three-over par 75 in her first round in wet and windy conditions on the North-West coast.
'They were the hardest conditions I have ever played in,' said Wie.
The world No 1, Annika Sorenstam, the 2003 champion, also struggled, compiling a 73.
'It was very difficult today - rainy, wet and cold. We had it all,' said the Swede.
Wie had two birdies but her card was spoiled by two bogey fives and a double-bogey six at the 13th.
