Calum Giles, with less than a minute on the pitch, settled the game for Great Britain as they beat Malaysia 1-0 at Bisham Abbey yesterday, writes Brian Tatlock. The game was the first of a two-Test series before the teams depart for Barcelona and the start of the Olympic Qualifying tournament next Friday. Giles, Britain's penalty corner specialist, came on the pitch twice during the game: first in the ninth minute, when John Shaw failed to stop the ball for him to strike, and then in the 29th minute when his low drag shot beat the goalkeeper Nadarajan Marathumuthu for the solitary goal.
