IT WAS all joy for Millfield School with their under-18 and under-16 teams qualifying for today's national youth finals at Cannock, writes Bill Colwill. But for Rugby, the only other school to reach the final stages of both competitions, there was bitter disappointment.

Rugby will not be able to forget the 9-0 thrashing by Millfield yesterday in their second under-16 pool game in which Miles McGoun netted four. He was also on target again in Millfield's final game scoring twice in the 3-0 win against Merchant Taylors.

Millfield play St George's, last year's winners, in the under-16 semi-final with Homerton House playing Wellington. There was plenty of thrilling hockey from Homerton, with their own brand of attractive, attacking hockey taking full advantage of their natural skills.

Shuhel Ahmed scored four times in their 7-2 win against Welton HC as the North-east Londoners gracefully wove their way without dropping a point to the semi-finals.

In the under-18s, the champions, Kingston, topped their pool and will play Winchester, who scraped into the semi- finals after a goalless pool game with Hall Cross and then winning a penalty stroke barrage 9-8 to claim second place.
