CLAIRE TAYLOR, an 18-year-old schoolgirl, notched 11 goals in Reading's 23-0 win against East London in their first-round tie in the AEWHA Cup. The former English internationals, Denise Shorney, with four, and Kate Parker, with three, joined in the goal spree.

There was also a big win for Loughborough Students, coached by the former Great Britain captain, Mary Nevill, with Charlie Cornwallis scoring six times in their 12-0 victory against Bramhall.

In the Nastro Azzurro South Premier League, only five clubs - Maidenhead, Hampstead and Westminster, High Wycombe, Gore Court, and Lyons, relegated from the National League - have maximum points after two games.

Andy Thompson scored twice and the United States captain, David Finkel, once in Hampstead's 3-1 win at Oxford Hawks with Tony Silman replying. Maidenhead, 2-0 down at the interval to goals from Richard Cockerill and Henry Stremes, fought back to beat Chichester 4-3. Four goals in 13 minutes from Martin Tucker, Kartar Davatwal (2) and the captain, Mark Hassall, overwhelmed the Sussex side.

The Norwich Union East League got under way at the weekend with Nick Fry scoring the first hat-trick for Ipswich, 3-1 winners away at Bishops Storford.
