Hough's try fells Paris

Paris St-Germain and Oldham, two clubs struggling at the foot of Super League, were denied victories in frantic finishes against Warrington and Halifax respectively yesterday.

An try in injury time by the Warrington hooker John Hough allowed Lee Briers to kick his sixth goal and condemn the Parisians to a 37-34 defeat. Paris scored seven tries to Wire's six but Jeremy Robinson converted just three of their eight goal-kicks.

Oldham's prospects were similarly dashed in the closing moment as Halifax's Australian threequarter, David Bouveng, scored his second try of the match and Martin Pearson added the touchline conversion with the final kick of the fixture to secure a 30-29 victory.

Bob Lindner, the former Australian Test forward, had watched his new club establish a 29-24 lead with a try from his countryman Matt Munro six minutes from the end.

In the First Division, Featherstone gave their new coach, Steve Simms, formerly of Halifax, a bold start by beating Widnes 42-10, with Steve Molloy scoring two tries.

Huddersfield recovered from their first League defeat with a 10-try rout of Workington, the former Great Britain captain Garry Schofield recording a hat-trick in a 50-34 success that takes them to within a point of the leaders Hull, who did not play yesterday.
