Cantona last week asked to be released from his contract, but after a meeting with Alex Ferguson, the United manager, in Paris, it was announced that he would be staying at Old Trafford.
Everton hope to sign Paul Gerrard, Oldham Athletic's England Under-21 goalkeeper, in a pounds 1.3m deal this week.
After Rangers' Andy Goram declared himself unavailable, Jim Leighton of Hibernian will keep goal for Scotland in Wednesday's European Championship qualifier against Greece. Ally McCoist, the Rangers striker, has been added to the squad.
