The Northern half of the FA Cup first round draw looks rather more interesting than the Southern with Newcastle - Town, that is, of the North West Counties League, not Kevin Keegan's lot - rewarded for their 4-0 defeat of UniBond Premier champions Bamber Bridge with a home tie against Second Division strugglers Notts County.

There's an all-Welsh tie between Colwyn Bay and Wrexham and Rochdale, way down in the Third, will not relish a trip to Macclesfield, riding high in the Conference. And are there stormy waters ahead for Hull in an east-coast derby at Northern League Whitby? Other League sides at risk: Darlington, who go to UniBond side Runcorn, and Walsall at Northwich Victoria of the Conference.

The fourth qualifying round's major "giant" killers, Consett of the Northern League, 1-0 winners at Conference side Gateshead, got for their pains a trip to Third Division Mansfield.

In the Southern section Woking entertain Millwall while troubled Brighton face a tricky tie in Suffolk at Sudbury Town. Farnborough will fancy their chances at home to Barnet.
