Krajicek's recovery complete: Tennis

Richard Krajicek, the Wimbledon champion, achieved his first success of the year when he beat the unseeded Czech Daniel Vacek 7-6, 7-6 in the Rotterdam World Indoor final yesterday.

Krajicek, who had a knee operation at the end of last year, collected enough ATP Tour points to improve one place to sixth in the world rankings.

The Dutchman failed to convert any of his six break points in the first set and went on to win the tie-break 7-4.

The second set also went to a tie-break after both players had little trouble holding serve. Despite a double-fault at the start of the shoot-out, Krajicek eventually won it 7-5.

Mark Philippoussis, the big-hitting Australian, served his way into the final of the Arizona Classic in Scottsdale where he will face the eighth- seeded American, Richey Reneberg. Philippoussis hit 19 aces past American Chris Woodruff in a 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 semi-final victory.

In his quarter-final match against Zimbabwe's Byron Black on Friday, one of Philippoussis's serves set an ATP Tour speed record of 142mph. The previous fastest serve of 139.8 mph had been delivered by Britain's Greg Rusedski last year in Peking.
