Lennox Lewis, no longer the No 1 challenger to the World Council champion, Frank Bruno, could fight Ray Mercer at New York City's Madison Square Garden in May. If the fight is confirmed, former heavyweight champions Evander Holyfield and Tim Witherspoon could appear in separate fights on the same bill.

Paul Ryan, the unbeaten British, Commonwealth and World Organisation inter-continental light-welterweight champion, is being lined up for a world title fight against WBO holder, Sammy Fuentes of Puerto Rico, but he must first make a successful third defence of the WBO title against Gene Reed, of the United States, at London Arena tomorrow.
